Der bedeutendste deutsche neulateinische Barockdichter Jakob Balde (1604-1668) gibt in seinem Gedichtzyklus De venatione, der das erste Buch der 1643 erschienenen Sylvae bildet, eine heitere Betrachtung des Für und Wider der Jagd. In 15 Thesen und Antithesen werden dem Eifer und der Unbildung der Jäger die abgeklärten und gebildeten Kommentare des überlegenen Betrachters entgegengestellt. Das 16. Gedicht bringt eine Versöhnung der beiden Standpunkte, während das 17. einen besinnlichen Hymnus auf die Jagd bietet, den Balde als meo sensu verfaßt bezeichnet. *** Jakob Balde (1604-1668), the most important Neo-Latin poet of the German Baroque, presents a jovial examination of the arguments for and against hunting in his verse-cycle De venatione, of which the Sylvae of 1643 forms the first volume. In 15 theses and antitheses he contrasts the enthusiasm of the uneducated huntsman with the worldly-wise and sophisticated commentary of the superior observer. In the 16th poem the two different standpoints are reconciled, while the 17th offers a reflective hymn to hunting which, as Balde notes, is composed meo sensu.
